Barbara McCann serves as Director of the Office of Safety, Energy, and Environment in the 
Policy Office of the Secretary of the US Department of Transportation. At the direction of 
Secretary Foxx, McCann’s office launched and manages the Department-wide Safer People, Safer Streets Initiative to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.  Prior to coming to DOT in early 2014, McCann served as the founding Executive Director of the National Complete Streets Coalition,  and in 2013 Island Press published her book, Completing Our Streets: The Transition to Safe and Inclusive Transportation Networks.
